Sharing Sports Stories, Inspiring Journeys.

Share Your Story

Every athlete has a story worth telling. It doesn’t have to end with a championship, a scholarship, or your name in the record books. It just has to be yours.

Roster of Us is a place for athletes at every level to share the moments, people, challenges, and experiences that shaped their relationship with the game. Your story can be as long or as short as you want, and you can share it under your name or completely anonymously.

And don’t worry about being a great writer. We care about your story, not your grammar. If you have something worth sharing but aren’t sure how to put it into words, our writers can work with you to shape and edit your story while making sure it still sounds and feels like you.

You lived the story. Let us help you tell it.

Our Mission

Sports are made of more than the stories we see on TV.

For every athlete whose name hangs from the rafters, there are thousands more whose experiences with the game have shaped who they are. Stories of triumph and heartbreak, lifelong friendships, unexpected endings, and moments that mattered even when no one else was watching.

Roster of Us exists to give those stories a place to live. We believe you don't have to be a professional athlete to have a story worth telling.

Our mission is to build a collection of authentic stories from athletes at every level, preserving the experiences that make sports mean so much to so many of us. But beyond sharing these stories, we hope they can serve as a source of guidance, perspective, and connection for others navigating their own athletic journeys.

Whether it's overcoming injury, dealing with the pressures of competition, struggling with mental health, or finding purpose beyond the game, we believe there's something to be learned from every athlete's experience.

By sharing these stories, we hope to remind athletes that they aren't alone in their struggles, that success looks different for everyone, and that the lessons learned through sports extend far beyond the game itself.

Every athlete has a story. This is our roster.

Marv's Story: Why I Created Roster of Us

For decades, Marvin “Marv” Jarman was a staple of J.H. Rose High School athletics in Greenville, North Carolina. Whether cheering from the stands, helping coaches behind the scenes, or simply showing up to support his community, Marv became much more than just another fan.

His dedication left a lasting impression on generations of athletes, coaches, and families.

Marv never needed to score a winning goal or make a game-winning shot to become a local legend. His story is about the impact one person can have on a community through a shared love of sports, and why stories like his are the very reason Roster of Us exists.

Keep Playing

For most athletes, there comes a day when they step off the field for what feels like the last time. Without organized practices, competitive games, or a team to call their own, it can be difficult to figure out where sports fit into the next chapter of life.

But who says the final whistle has to mean the end? Keep Playing explores what it means to maintain a love for sports long after the competitive days are over, and why the game doesn't have to end just because the stakes have changed.

Breaking My Leg,  Finding My Love for the Game

After dedicating much of his childhood to soccer, Anderson Shirley was determined to take his game to the next level. But on his very first practice with a new club, a devastating leg injury threatened to derail everything he had worked toward.

For most athletes, this would have been a nightmare. For Anderson, however, the injury brought an unexpected feeling: relief. His story explores the pressures of competitive sports, the struggles of burnout, and how sometimes taking a step away can help you rediscover why you fell in love with the game in the first place.
